This is more like what i wanted to articulate about my feelings on the Strokes. However, i didn’t know how “cute” they were, or their “noble” pedigree, but they definitely seemed to have touched all of the right critics to feed the hype. It’s all incredibly suspicious for a band that has left me so lukewarm after repeated listens. It might be these speakers, but it sounds like cardboard box production from here. I don’t feel like i’m catchy fire with the magic from the stage. I feel like this is the dim memory of hearing some barband flailing away inside, while i’m out in the parking lot puking up cheap, foamy beer. No, this is not a great memory.
Belle & Sebastian’s “Jonathan David”. It’s definitely okay. “Take Your Carriage Clock & Shove It” and “The Loneliness of the Middle Distance Runner” are definitely more okay though. I’d like them even more if their long-ass titles were not such a pain in the neck to type. Yes, i’ve listened to these songs for over an hour. No, because of the block i’m having, there’s nothing to say.
Beta Band’s “Life”. Not as exciting as i had hoped after their last single, with “exciting” really meaning energetic in this sentence. It’s chock full of quirky little noises that get welded onto a plodding beat that fits that sing-song melancholy vocal. Yes, you have heard it before. It just seems to sound better, but that’s without having the last two LPs around to check. Good effort, but my expectatuions for the forthcoming album has been lowered a tiny fraction. Still one of my favorite bands, but i’m needing a mainline adrenaline shot like “Sequinsizer” or better yet, beyond… but this feels like a triple done of Zoloft with a chaser of demon juice. The Squarepusher track on this NME compseems to be the right octane, but without some chanted mantra t take me straight through oblivion, it’s not any closer to the magic elixer.
I rather enjoy this Dave Navarro rant on Pitchfork news, especially since i could not figure out what the news item was. An editorial? Heh. Actually, the fact that it’s nearly Satanic in its preposterous badness makes it more menacing than Slayer, and wouldn’t the world be a sadder place without a Slayer? No? Then how about a little more of that solo Dave Navarro? Please! Someone else has to have seen that video. Another clue: Kubrick.
I understand somewhat the slagging of the first Gorillaz single, but will someone kindly explain what is wrong with “Latin Simone”? As far as i can tell so far… nothing. It has a little too much of a latte sipping international flavor, but overall i found it palatable. I own the some of the Buena Vista albums, and Ibriham Ferrar cannot truly do wrong. Grafting robotic beats on Latin music is not terribly original, but it has those lovely Albarn backup vocals which adds to much spice.
From As Above.I wish that there were more sites devoted to authors that are as comprehensive as this one for Will Self. (The reason why i’m so excited is because finished Grey Area awhile back, and found myself hooked.) Now i’ve stumbled upon Spike again as well, which is fairly exciting as i’m having more time to read than to listen to music now, it seems.
Just wait until the RIAA tries to introduce this fungus to the Staes and Europe…
I’m not blaming Ari Fleischer for putting a positive spin on every meeting Bush has, but the mainstream press ought to pay attention to this, and stop printing everything Fleischer says as fact, and do a little more investigating. The point was already made on the nonscandal over the imaginary vandalization o the White House offices. Fleischer’s a liar, and so is the president. It’s going to take a lot more than Daniel Schorr to get past the lies, double dealing and hypocrisy.
Daschle is a chicken. It’s not about higher ground or honor or bipartisanship. Karl Rove is dangerous, and no one dares challenge him. Phooey.
Cool theory on the origin of life. However, the theory allows more time for life to evolve, as it would have happened near spontaneously, it relies on what seems to be highly improbable circumstances. It makes life less likely to permeate this universe. I am for the star-seed theory anyway.
NASA is going ahead with the Mercury Orbiter. It probably won’t fuel any of my loopy ideas or beliefs, but the naswers on how Mercury can have polar ice caps yet be so close to the sun, or have a magmetic field like the earth’s.
i fear that i’m going insane, a i ate a cornish pastry from Gregg’s this morning, and i forgot that i swore not to eat beef here. i was worried enough about the grease, but with the way that Lou & i’s luck is going, i’ll get Mad cow disease. I’m so damned susceptible to psychosomatic illness that i feel my brain turning into steaming soup as i type.
