Fighting Against Making the Pie Higher 02.07.01

Listening to the New York Dolls self-titled album right now, but don’t feel like writing about that. It seemed like a good shot to wake up, but i still feel sluggish and sleepy, even after a long walk in the fields. Weird. It’s a pretty lively, upbeat album. Well, shucks. It’s ended… what now? How about some Undertones until something else occurs to me?

Am having a severe case of blog envy/apthy. Found out that Raindog Luke Martin has been doing one for almost a year, and it’s great. In just the past 24 hours, i’ve spotted at least three links that i’d love to repost, like the gorgeous giant squid photo and article (there’s much bigger ones. I just know it) and a test to pick a poem for what mood you are in. (I got T.S. Eliot’s “The Waste Land”. Spooky.)

Just figured out that eGroups has been gobbled up by Yahoo…. and i cannot even remember who was gobbled up eGroups last year or so! This monopolization is scary. I was just going to check on the Elephant 6 listserv that I’m subscribed on “no-mail” on to see if Neutral Milk Hotel is defunct. I decided to listen to NMH’s “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” and “On Avery Island” and see if I still hate Jeff Mangum. I don’t know that, but he was still overrated. It’s odd that he has dropped like a stone beneath the waves of music criticism. While i thought too much of the praise was undeserved, the silence is now eerie. It always bugged me that parts of “King of Carrot Flowers” were just rewrites of that early single “Up and Over”, and now I wonder if that’s all he really has… or whether i misjudged him all along, and he really is mentally ill. So, did that girl in “Three Peaches” drive him crazy? Does he know that her head swelled up the size of a pumpkin and turned orange? I’m worried about the poor little sourfaced bugger.

Let’s talk about the Bible. A new book says that most of the “historical events” contained in it are total fabrications or reweavings of the truth. The title is “The Bible Unearthed” and i have a feeling that the Amazon reviews will be quite entertaining with their strident protests. Salon has a review on it too. None of it is earthshaking to me, but tell that to the precious “Community” with their scriptual predictions of the imminent apocalypse. And shut yer mouth. I understand the printed word just fine, you self-righteous little twerps. I’m a giant, if you recall. All of you small people are just faded remnants of what came after the Flood. There were giants in the Earth in those days. Maybe just one badger survived.

This goes back to “Man with the Movie Camera” in a way. All of this nonsense about how there must be structure, and how the cult of the individual and selfishness is destroying society, but it’s a totalitarian, dogmatic, rigid party who is going to save us from our indulgence and decadence.

the Guardian is still turning out my favorite coverage of Shrub’s regime.
