I really did think that Osama bin Laden was secretly in custody, and that he’d be trotted out on a leash in the next few days, but this video undermines that fear/ hope. (I fear that kind of cynical manipulation by the Bush administration, but obviously welcome bin Laden’s capture.) Those Mayberry Machiavellis really didn’t have an ace up their sleeve, did they?
So why is this guy still on the loose?
It’s a bit alarming that all the evidence suggests Bush and his pals are *even more* incompetent than I’d first guessed. I mean, I’d thought maybe they’re just bumbling along like Clousseau, coming to a proper conclusion through no fault of their own, crowing like the rooster, thinking they’re rising the sun. No. Not even that. Just thoroughly stupid and ineffectual, yet still arrogant. It’s very odd.
‘Hubris’ seems to e inadequate in describing the situation.
