S’alright. Now just for songs. Some of these will probably wind up on a year end list of albums, but for some reason or another, did not.
Los Campesinos! “You! Me! Dancing!” The whole EP works for me. It belongs on that album list, even if it’s an EP. It’s the only song i had by them for ages though. I love to let the spittle fly as i shout along. Frenzied indie shite, oh, how i love you…
M.I.A. She was a favorite of mine until Damien commented that she’s this generation’s Toni Basil. Even though i don’t believe him consciously, that little description has snuck into my mind, and i cannot listen to her without wincing. I still have not made it all of the way through Kala. That being noted, i really love the singles, especially “Bird Flu,” “Paper Planes,” and “Boyz.” Gimme a little more time.
Black Dice. “Kokomo,” “Drool,” and “Manoman” In fact, all of Load Blown is probably going to be fine for me. It’s just that the right moment hasn’t sprung on me to take it all in. It’s turning out to be right now, as i’m playing the whole album in bits, i cannot find anything to dislike. I’ll add it to that second album list later, as i just thought of another forgotten album that i loved this year.
Black Moth Super Rainbow “Drippy Eye (Brian Ellis remix)” Laying slabs of gnarled guitar over a song that i already dug turned out to be a great idea. Turned something that was weirdly pastoral into kosmiche psych.
Raccoo-oo-oon. “Invisible Sun” Nice bit of cacophony. Red-lined distortion and lots of feedback.
Battles. “Atlas” The whole album brings me into prog-rock flashbacks. I’m drawing the line at Deerhoof. The March of the Machine-Elves turns out to bring me joy though.
Feist. “1 2 3 4″ Oh fuck. I gotta be honest or none of this means anything. The whole album doesn’t wear well with me, but this has an earworm quality that i cannot deny. The iPod commercial is wearing it out, but my addiction to this one is spooking me. I’ll be listening to AOR in no time at all.
Dan Deacon “Crystal Cat.” Not so crazy about the whole record, as hearing it all at once exhausts me, but the sugarbuzz psychedelia is awesome.
The Chromatics “Animal Nitrate” Italo-disco turns out to hold little allure for me, but this songs reminds me an acoustic Liars, a kind of death-folk glam song.
White Rabbits “Kid on My Shoulders” Good album that is still growing on me, but this one seems to groove a bit more.
Wooden Shjips. “We Ask You to Ride” Until i heard this song, i thought that i had outgrown the doors. Nice bumping bassline and funky organ, and the grating guitar solo is grate. Maybe it’s a fluke.
Again, more as i think of ‘em…
