Commenters must also register for now. It would be cool to have everything completely open, but what killed the blog last time was the relentless onslaught of spam comments. There were real problems with the service of the previous hosting company in the end, nut the burden on their servers from the spam was quite real.
If some powerful spam filters appear, the open comments will return.
