the Yes Nation

WFMU’s Beware of the Blog posted a link to the YES Nation, which shows what a vast cultural wasteland mainstream radio is right now. I don’t think that this is their original intent. They probably mean just to ID what’s on your local radio station for you, but seeing some of the same songs appear again and again and again, knowing how much more music is not being played, makes me cringe at the lack of dimension.

What a monument of mediocrity…

oh, and fuck Lieberman. I still cannot wrap my mind around what’s going to happen now that the House is under Democratic control, and possibly the Senate too, but there was some part of me that hoped that no matter what, that little worm of a man would go down in flames. Even Republicans i know loathe the man. It was mushy middle, under-informed Democrats who gave Lieberman the edge, people who get labeled as moderates only because they cannot be bothered to understand or believe in anything.
Let’s hear it for gridlock! Seriously. I’d prefer Bush to be impeached, but if at least no more insane legislation gets rubberstamped granting even more power to the executive branch, especially one as incompetent and arrogant as this one, i’ll be happy.

Jindal got 87% of the vote. Bah… He reminds me of the Smiler from Transmetropolitan. Most of the people i know voted against him, yet if one combined the totals of the two Democratic candiates and the independent, they didn’t even break 17,000. I heard that Jindal was still campaigning until the last minute too, appearing in speak in churches in my neck of the woods. 87% and still campaigning? …he’s really running for governor.

  1. [...] The other day I welcomed gridlock. I didn’t in my wildest dreams believe that both houses of Congress would be controlled by the Democrats. The Rumsfeld resignation hadn’t hit yet either. My pragmatic low expectations are now giving way to idealism again. [...]
