mobile phones

As i was driving home late last night, i had this wild epiphany of what to post and what to write. Unfortunately, i couldn’t find one of the CDs until this morning, and now i have no idea what i’m on about, aside from both songs reference mobile phones.

Super Furry Animals “Whereever I Lay My Phone” When Lou first bought this CD for me (when we were still on different sides of the Atlantic,) it seemed like this is one of the songs that annoyed her most. The AMG entry calls this old-school techno, but it sounds more like the stuff coming out now that i like than the true electronic music back then that allegedly pointed the way to the future. Rock primitivism blended dated electronics is still in fashion. I know that SFA already said that while they were in Brazil, the local music didn’t affect the album at all. It’s hard to imagine them not getting worked up by baile funk (even though i get far more out of the music that rips it off than the original stuff.)

M.I.A. “Uraqt” Sheesh. How cutting edge can one be when working with the Sanford & Son theme? Pretty damned cutting actually. I’ve been neglecting this song for months, and just fell in love with it all over again.
