I neglected this in the previous post on the recently discovered Egyptian ships near the Red Sea that seem to have been part of Queen Hatshepsut’s expedition to Punt, but it seems that there is now evidence in the pottery found at this site could have originated in Yemen, as the style is similiar. There’s the chance that Punt could be Yemen, which would explain why there seems to have been no evidence of contact between Nubia and Punt, but where would the ostrich feathers, leopard skins, giraffes, lions, cynocephalus apes, and elephants’ tusks come from? Yemen may have had incense, but there seems to be more evidence that Punt was in Africa, unless Punt was an idea rather than a specific place. The West Indies was India for Columbus at first, so over various dynasties, the actual destination of Punt could have changed. It may have been more ‘real’ than the kingdom of Prester John, but only for the purposes of trade.
