something to listen to while eating MREs

Sunday, September 11th, 2005

Three obscure slices of Wire-y / Homosexuals-esque hick pop from Peterborough, England, circa ’77 through ’78. How’s that for brevity? ‘Into The 80′s’ is the dare-I-say ‘best known’ track of the lot, owing to the collateral cachet of association with Raw Records of Cambridge and having appeared on a handful of Bloodstains/Killed By ______ comps. A very posthumous band indeed – any way you slice it.

And I’m recovering from Katrina, ripping up baseboards – how are you?

The Now “So Simple Then”

The Now “Into The 80′s” This was the only official release of the Now’s short life-span. Recorded ’77, released ’79.

It’s available over on onegoodmove.

No comment yet. I’m listening to it now.

Jacob Appelbaum and Joel Johnson are blogging from Algiers. I’m not being reassured.

(From Boing Boing, who has been proving some of the spookier anecdotes.)

parts of New Orleans may be uninhabitable for 10 years

Sunday, September 11th, 2005

My friend in the National Guard was saying last Wednesday that the pollution was far worse than anyone had yet reported, and that parts of the city may not be habitable for years. Between chemicals in the water and fires, he had heard that it could be eight years before certain areas were properly cleaned. Now according to an EPA whistleblower that the Independent is using as a source, Hugh Kaufman, it could be ten years. What’s worse is that the EPA is not even being included in the core response group. No measures are being taken to prevent longterm problems from exposure to these toxins.

preemptive nukes are almost back on the table

Sunday, September 11th, 2005

Rumsfeld has yet to sign off on the plan, but it’s so poorly worded that the faked evidence of WMDs given to invade Iraq would have been enough to allow the U.S. to dump nuclear weapons on the country instead. This is not the irresponsible bunker buster nukes that keep being pushed for. These are full-fledged tactical nuclear weapons.

Idiots. These people have already proven that they are horribly ill-informed and incapable of making critical decisions. Relaxing the standards of how and when nuclear weapons is incredibly dangerous with this absurdly ineffectual administration.
