gin and boredom. was in new york city from good friday to easter so there are actually quite a neat few new things on my coffee table. a buzz gives me good vibrations and moves me to type. i’ve been lazy and indifferent since my return. now that spring break has sprung, i’m looking for new outlets since capitalism has emptied my hungry american pockets. i guess here is as good a place as any to babble on my theory on…
satwa ‘world edition’: on the stereo right now. mostly instrumental. raga ish. if you’re into six organs you’d probably appreciate it. a decent chaser.
pau riba ‘jo, la donya i el gripau’: spanish folk music. a bit strange. not sure what it is about.
sisa ‘orgia‘ enthusiastic folk music. if only i could remember the spanish i took in college. oh well, it was a summer course. it sounds like ‘holy mountain’ on antidepressants chased with weed and red wine. giddy, goofy, and blurry.
circle ‘forest‘: not to be confused with ‘full circle’ by the bullshit incredible string band rip off band forest. may be my favorite buy in the big apple. this makes my head spin. sounds right out of the forest of eden. vikings jack off like wild baboons possessed by tree spirits and prog rock slowed by humidity’s colder brother. play this ‘shine for the moon.
here’s what badaboom gramophone #3 has to say about them….
Simply put, Circle is the most internationally visible, prolific exponent of the outstanding yet criminally obscure Finnish underground. Formed in 1991 in the bucolic coastal city of Pori, the group constantly reinvents, expands upon and refines its hypnotically repetitive, instantly recognizable meld of megaton riffs, Teutonic rhythms, surging fuzz storms, icy synth drones and hymnal, delicate vocals. The band’s sharp technical prowess, revolving stylistic obsessions, unstable lineup and berserker live shows have delighted, pissed off and dazzled a growing cult of international thrill-seekers. Led by guitarist-turned-bassist Jussi Lehtisalo, Circle has adapted and personalized bits of progressive rock, metal, ambient, punk, noise and psychedelia without ever seeming derivative, dilettantish or corny.
cool shit says i. too tired to talk in type. maybe more some other time.
