Didn't know what hikkimori was, so I looked it up. Turns out there's a whole can of worms over at wikipedia about it... Thanks for posting this interview with one of today's most intriguing writers.

Just finished Bartleby & Co. You might have already written this, but it’s an amazing starting-point to search for a lot of authors, in addition to being a masterpiece on its own merits. I’d love to sit next to Vila-Matas at a dinner; and just listen.

I’m a BritLit guy, so I’m a little more predisposed to the (Man) Bookers. Last year’s winner, The Gathering/Anne Enright, is a very sturdy horror story, and the Nicola Barker/Darkmans was funny. The Booker will mix quality up with quirky; there’s a reasonable history of obscurity in their winners. I dunno, did anything good come out of Great Britain last year??

What is Vila-Matas' involvement with The Lives of Others? Are they talking about the German film of that name or something different?
